Our August speaker will be Nancy Pickard, award-winning and critically-acclaimed author of 18 novels and dozens of short stories. Her most recent book, The Scent of Rain and Lightning, was a 2011 Kansas Notable Book and finalist for the Agatha Award for best novel, Macavity Award for best novel, and High Plains Book Award for fiction. And now, it’s going to be a movie! Nancy promises to tell us more during our meeting.
A bit of information about the movie is already up at IMDB.
Nancy is a four-time Edgar nominee, winner of multiple Agatha Awards and Macavity Awards, and winner of the first-ever Anthony Award for Best Paperback Original Mystery for her second book, Say No to Murder.
Her novel, The Virgin of Small Plains, won the Agatha and Macavity awards, was a finalist for both the Edgar and the Dilys awards, and was named a Killer Book by the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association. It was a Kansas Notable Book in 2008 and Kansas Reads book of the year for 2009.
The August meeting will be 11 a.m. to noon at the Antioch branch of the Johnson County Library, on the northwest corner of Shawnee Mission Parkway (aka 63rd Street) and Antioch.
